Renee Kathleen Zellweger was born on April 25, 1969, in Katy, Texas, a small town outside Houston. The daughter of European parents (her father was Swiss and her mother Norwegian), Renee had an older brother that she greatly admired.

Attending Katy High School Renee Zellweger was member of the Thespian Society, the Drama Club and she acted in several school productions. After graduating from high school in 1987, Renee moved from her hometown of Katy to Austin, Texas.

After graduating from college Renee Zellweger worked on a few movies with tiny bit parts in My Boyfriend's Back, Dazed and Confused, 8 Seconds and a few TV movies. Dazed and Confused starred many of the Gen-X we see in the movies now, but because of the budget Renee Zellweger could only work as a background person.

Renee Zellweger first lead starring role was in The Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre working along with her co - Dazed and Confused pal Matthew McConaughey.

Zellweger did more commercials until she decided to move to California in 1993. When she'd arrived in L.A. the phone was ringing off the hook for Renee Zellweger to 'do lunch'. She signed up with the management company of Gallin-Morey & Associates having John Carrabino as her manager. She also signed up with United Talent Agency, having Nick Stevens as her agent.

Dido, Robbie, Sting Sing For 'Bridget'
New recordings from Sting with Annie Lennox, Rufus Wainwright with Dido, Jamie Cullum, Robbie Williams and Will Young will be found on the soundtrack to "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason," due Nov. 19 via Geffen. Featuring Renee Zellweger reprising the title role she played in "Bridget Jones' Diary," the film opens Nov. 12 in U.S. theaters.

Tourmates Sting and Lennox offer a re-recording of the former's "We'll Be Together," a No. 7 Hot 100 hit in 1987. Dido and Wainwright team for "I Eat Dinner," originally recorded by the latter's mother, Kate McGarrigle. Young covers Sade's "Your Love Is King," while Cullum tackles the evergreen "Everlasting Love."


Helen Opens Tribeca
Organizers of the Tribeca Film Festival have announced that the Kate Hudson-starring Raising Helen will open the annual New York festival on May 1st. Helen, directed by Garry Marshall, marks the second consecutive Big Apple-set romantic comedy to open the fest. Last year the Renee Zellweger/Ewan McGregor starrer Down With Love opened the festivities.
