Teri Lynn Hatcher was born December 8th, 1964, in Sunnyvale, California outside of San Francisco. She was the only child to father Owen, a nuclear physicist and mother Esther, a computer programmer. With her parents' occupations, you'd think that Teri Hatcher was bound for high school glory in the math club or chess team, but destiny would dictate otherwise.

Teri Hatcher

Teri Hatcher was born in the Bay area to a physicist father and computer programmer mother. She asserts that she was an unattractive "nerd" in high school - although no photographic proof has been furnished. After graduation, she attended community college to study math and engineering, then attended the American Conservatory Theatre. Although at the time she didn't have designs on an acting career, she was definitely coming out of her shell: in a remarkable transition for a former nerd, she became a cheerleader for the San Francisco 49ers when she was twenty. Her life began to change when she agreed to lend moral support to a friend who was attending an open casting call for The Love Boat. Teri Hatcher won a spot in a troupe of dancing mermaids, a failed publicity attempt to up the sinking show's appeal. This small taste of success was all Hatcher needed to give acting a full-time shot.

Later that year, after prancing her fins on The Love Boat, Teri Hatcher made her TV acting debut as Penny Parker in MacGyver, which turned into a recurring role and initiated a painful, three-year romantic involvement with its star, Richard Dean Anderson. Her romantic track record was already shaky - she had a ten-month marriage to personal trainer Markus Leithold, who has since sold his story of their short-lived coital bliss to the tabloids. But despite her personal problems, she continued to plug away, guest-starring on numerous shows and starring in several failed pilots. Hatcher managed to land small roles in several films--notably as Sylvester Stallone's sister in Tango & Cash and as a big-haired airhead in Soapdish, which showcased her comedic talents. A starring role in The Cool Surface also showcased her "talents," but it's a performance Hatcher would like to forget.

Stardom finally found Teri Hatcher in a most unlikely role: Lois Lane in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. She gained a loyal following for her portrayal as the sexy, spunky reporter, although she says the program's evolution into a family show caught her off-guard. Teri Hatcher success also made her the Rita Hayworth of the new technology set. Her popularity on the Internet is legendary: for a long time, she held the title for the most downloaded female, and she has countless virtual shrines that compile her vital statistics and every new photo that appears of her.

With a new marriage to actor Jon Tenney, and revealing roles in Heaven's Prisoners and 2 Days in the Valley, Teri Hatcher is on a winning streak. Upcoming film roles in Dead Girl and Dogwater should help Teri Hatcher prove that her talents are anything but artificial.

Teri Hatcher News

Hatcher, Foxx Nab Golden Globes
A year ago, Teri Hatcher watched the Golden Globes at home in bed, wearing pajamas and munching popcorn.

She had a much better time Sunday. The veteran actress won the Golden Globe for best actress in a comedy and her hit ABC show "Desperate Housewives" won best comedy.

In an upset, the FX series about plastic surgery, "Nip/Tuck," was named best television drama. It beat some more celebrated series like "The Sopranos," "24" and ABC's other freshman sensation, "Lost."

"Desperate Housewives" was the night's redemption story, not just for actresses like Hatcher but for creator Marc Cherry. His script was turned down by several networks until ABC, desperate for a hit, took a chance.

"I was a 40-year-old comedy writer," Cherry said in accepting the series' award. "I went two and a half years without getting an interview for a job."

Cherry and his cast were ebullient backstage, perhaps aided by the Golden Globe's traditional open bar.

"We really are just a big team," Hatcher said. "Everyone is unique and equally strong in their characters."

There was some question whether the series, with its moments of pathos and absurdity, would be entered in the comedy or drama category. It's nothing like sitcoms "Sex and the City" and "Will & Grace," which were also nominated.

"It's not exactly fair," Cherry said. "But the truth is, we're not like any of those dramas either, so a choice had to be made."

Cherry attended the Golden Globes with his mother. It was appropriate, since her mother helped give birth to the series.

He recalled watching news stories a few years ago about Andrea Yates, the Texas mother who drowned her children, and wondering who could be so desperate. His mother shocked him by saying, "I've been there."

"The idea for the series was born right then and there," he said.

While not for the squeamish, "Nip/Tuck" fits into the national fascination with personal transformation, executive producer Ryan Murphy said. If he can translate a trophy into more viewers, the Golden Globe might be a transformative experience for "Nip/Tuck."

"For me, FX is now the place to go for vanguard programming in town," said Murphy, citing other network series "The Shield" and "Rescue Me."

Ian McShane of the HBO western "Deadwood" was named best actor in a drama, and Mariska Hargitay of "Law & Order: SVU" won the Globe for best actress. Jason Bateman of "Arrested Development" joined Hatcher in the winner's circle for comic actors.

Teri Scoops Golden Globe
Marcia Cross, Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Eva Longoria and Nicollette Sheridan have been set as presenters at the 62nd Annual Golden Globe Awards to be telecast live on NBC Sunday, January 16 (8-11 p.m. EST) at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

They join previously-announced presenters Patricia Arquette, Kate Beckinsale, Halle Berry, Jim Carrey, Will Ferrell, Topher Grace, Goldie Hawn, Dustin Hoffman, Kate Hudson, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Diane Keaton, Anthony LaPaglia, Matthew McConaughey, Megan Mullally, Al Pacino, Mekhi Phifer, Lisa Marie Presley, Prince, Tim Robbins, Meryl Streep, Charlize Theron, Usher, Mark Wahlberg, Naomi Watts and Renee Zellweger.

Cross, Hatcher, Huffman and Sheridan are Golden Globe nominees for their roles in the ABC series Desperate Housewives. The only other instance of four actresses receiving Golden Globe nominations for one series was 2004, when Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon were nominated for their performances in Sex and the City.

Pierce Brosnan and Mike Nichols are taking part in the presentation of the Cecil B. DeMille Award to Robin Williams for his "outstanding contribution to the entertainment field."

The Golden Globe Awards, regarded worldwide as The Hollywood Party of the Year, will be seen in more than 150 countries worldwide, and is one of the few awards ceremonies that span both television and motion picture achievements. The event's rating growth has exceeded 500% since it became an annual event on NBC ten years ago. Last January's telecast was one of 2004's top two highest-rated awards telecasts.

The special will be produced by dick clark productions in association with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Lorenzo Soria is President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Dick Clark and Barry Adelman are executive producers. Al Schwartz is consulting producer. Ken Shapiro is producer. Ron Weed is co-producer.

Super Teri's TV Comeback
When sexy Teri Hatcher decided to quit the limelight seven years ago, her army of male admirers were sent in to deep shock.

They had grown attached to the raven-haired beauty in her roving role as reporter Lois Lane in the TV series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman.

But Teri decided enough was enough - and dumped stardom for full-time motherhood after the birth of daughter Emerson Rose.

100% Mother

So committed to her new arrival was Teri, she even rejected out of hand any suggestion of bringing in a nanny to help, unlike most Hollywood mums.

Gone forever... well, not quite. Now she's back in the new racy chick drama Desperate Housewives which is set to fill the void left by Sex And The City.

And it looks likely to turn stunning Teri into the new Sarah Jessica Parker.

Teri, now 40, plays single mum and divorcee Susan Mayer, who has a teenage daughter and will go to any lengths to grab a fella.

She gushed: "The part of Susan appears tailor-made for me. It seems like I just stepped into her skin.

"Emerson is in the first grade of her school so it seemed to me that this was the most appropriate time to get a job.

"It may not seem like much of an artistic choice to some people but I would not trade one minute of the time I spent with Emerson and have her raised by a nanny."

Superman's Super-babe!

It's all such a far cry from those days as one of the sexiest women on the globe during the height of Superman's success.

A picture of her naked with only the Man Of Steel's cape to preserve her modesty was the most downloaded snap on the internet the year it was released.

Teri in her new role as Susan Mayer
Her star was rising when she appeared as temptress Paris Carver in Bond movie Tomorrow Never Dies. Then she quit the scene.

But anyone who knows Teri will tell you she never ceases to amaze. In her youth she was a professional cheerleader for the San Francisco 49ers - all this while studying Engineering and Maths.

Her beauty and brains combo has always made her more streetwise than most.

Hidden Talents

As she said during her Superman days: "Despite the fact that I have a good-size pair of breasts, in Lois & Clark, I have the opportunity to show the world they're not my only attribute."

But since that Bond role, her main job has been as a mum. Now she is relishing her role as Mayer. And like Mayer, she has had her own marital problems too.

Teri's first marriage, to actor Marcus Leithold in 1988, ended after just ten months. She was subsequently linked with various men, including Superman co-star Dean Cain.

But she eventually married American actor John Tenney in 1994 - father to Emerson - before they split in March 2003.

Teri says she is happy to be a singleton - and vows she won't be rushing to tie the knot for a third time.

"If you pinned me down to a yes or no, I would probably say no. It's so far from what I can imagine right now. My priorities are my daughter, family, friends and work."

Far removed from sexually rampant Susan Mayer, then ...
